Chinese Wooden Box

Item Details

A Chinese box made of wood with brass-tone clasp and hinges. The box is decorated on the exterior with landscape imagery and other decorative elements on the sides while the top depicts a dramatic scene, possibly at court, in which a supplicant presents a flag to a man dressed in historic battle gear as other men, clad in courtly robes, look on. The inside of the box is lined with paper printed with Chinese characters.

Condition

- one hinge needs repair; paper lining is faded.
