A Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by artist Mizuno Toshikata (水野年方, 1866-1908) titled Shelter from the Rain: Woman of the Tenna Era (雨やどり 天和頃婦人 Ameyadori, Tenna koro fujin) from the series Thirty-six Elegant Selections (三十六佳撰 Sanjūroku kasen), and published by Akiyama Buemon. This print features a man and woman, hiding out under a tree to avoid the onslaught of the storm. The man cries out in anguish as the woman remains calm, ringing the water out of the long sleeves of her kimono. The title of the work and series are printed in two cartouches to upper right, and the artist’s signature and a red seal are both present to lower right. Unframed, this work awaits your choice of presentation.

Condition

- minimal foxing present, and there are tears to the lower left and right that have been repaired with tape to the verso. There is a small area of paper loss present to lower left as well.
