A wonderful still life watercolor painting with gouache highlights on paper by well-listed artist Paul De Longpré (French, 1855 – 1911), created during 1902. Depicted is flower arrangement of yellow roses in placed in a blue vase. Five bees are present in the composition three are flying towards the flower arrangement while two have already landed on the flowers. This piece is signed and dated to the lower right and affirm this piece was created during Longpré’s time in Los Angeles, California. Housed in a gilt tone frame under glass in a double pink and green tone mat. A horizontal hanging wire is present to the verso and this piece comes ready to hang.
Artist Biograph
Paul De Longpré is a self-taught French artist who was first exhibited in the Paris Salon during 1876 at the age of 21. Longpré came to the United States of America after the Paris bank crash in which he lost all of this money. He moved to New York during 1890 and held an exhibition in 1896 of his floral painting attain him immediate recognition.
