Carved Wood Statue of Garuda

A wood carving of the mythological Hindu and Buddhist creature, Garuda (‘Krut’ in Thai), depicted grasping two snakes with open beak, and wings outstretched. Garuda appears in Hinduism and Buddhism as half-man and half-bird and is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. The Garuda is depicted on the national emblem of Thailand. This carving appears to be made from a single piece of wood and has felted feet on the base. No markings or signatures.

- fair, a broken piece near the floral medallion at the base.
