Large Stained Glass Commemorating Notre Dame Legend George Gipp

Item Details

A large stained glass commemorating Notre Dame football player George “The Gipper” Gipp. This custom made stained glass window features an oak frame with an arched top rail. It depicts Notre Dame football player George Gipp to the center, his birthdate 1895 to the left, and the date of his death in 1920 to the right. His famous quote, delivered to his coach Knute Rockne on his deathbed, runs the length of the lower section. Only 25 years old, George succumbed to a streptococcic throat infection not long after helping the Irish defeat Northwestern late in his senior year season. He told coach Rockne, ’I’ve got to go, Rock. It’s all right. I’m not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys — tell them to go in there with all they’ve got and win just one for the Gipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock. But I’ll know about it, and I’ll be happy.’’ Thought by many to be one of the greatest all-round players in college football history, Gipp was voted into the National Football Hall of Fame in 1951. Please note the dimensions of this piece; it is a very large item.
