Kazumi Amano "From Gauge Development" Signed Limited Edition Woodblock Print
Item Details
A signed limited edition woodblock print titled, From Gauge Development circa 1969, by Japanese printmaker, Kazumi Amano (尼野和三, 1927-2001), who is best known for his very colorful, abstract woodblock prints. Amano’s love for art was realized early on in life when he started working as an apprentice for the respected woodblock artist, Munakata Shiko, but his career didn’t really begin to flourish until he moved to the United States where he continued to experiment with several different printing techniques, creating both large and small works. This beautiful woodcut depicts a black and white spiral-like design along the bottom with wavy, colorful stripes coming out from the top in shades of yellow, orange, pink, red, and green, which then begins to fade in color and intensity as the stripes near the upper half of the print. This piece is pencil signed and dated by the artist in the lower left margin and is numbered 19 out of an edition of 30 to the left as well with the title written in Japanese up the left margin. The print has a single white mat and is housed behind plexiglass in a simple metal frame with a wire for hanging to the verso.
