Original Atsushi Kikuchi Watercolor on Paper

Item Details

An original watercolor on paper painting by well listed artist Atsushi Kikuchi (Early 20th century). A lovely cityscape, illuminated by neon and the dirty smell of what goes on inside bars in the wee hours. Beautifully executed an thoughtfully obscured with a sensibility that Jack Kerouac would tip his hat to. ‘Atsushi Kikuchi, active in 1940s, was born in Seattle, WA. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Atsushi Kikuchi was born just after the turn of the 20th Century and spent his childhood in Japan. After moving to the San Francisco area, he received a scholarship to study art and moved to Los Angeles to pursue an art career. During World War II, he was confined in Japanese internment camps for a period of time and then was inducted into the United States Army. After the war, he moved to Chicago. Kikuchi produced watercolors before and after the war (via askart).’ The painting is presented in an elaborate wooden frame with gilt and a blue fabric lined mat to edge. The painting is signed by the artist to the lower right hand corner and stamped in red with a chop mark as is customary in the tradition of Japanese painting and art in general.
