An original oil on canvas painting by listed German-Ohioan artist Gertrude Grigorov (20th century), titled Black Forest, W. Germany. The painting depicts the forested mountain range, painted in quick, thickly applied strokes of impasto paint. The painting is signed to the lower left. It is presented in a carved wooden frame with faux linen lining and a gold fillet. A hanging wire is attached to the verso, and a tag from Grigorov Art Studio hangs from it. Grigorov’s family emigrated to the US in the 1960s and settled in Cincinnati, where she completed many of her paintings. Many of her paintings were specifically inspired by the Ohio River valley.
