Pair of Hand-painted Chinese Ancestor Portraits
Item Details
A pair of hand-painted Chinese ancestor portraits. These portraits depict a man and a woman, each with photographic faces and elaborate, hand-painted bodies. The female portrait features an older woman, her skin wrinkled as she raises her eyebrows in a skeptical expression. Her hand-painted outfit is full of vibrant color, with vivid red sleeves amidst cool green and blue undergarments. She wears a long pearl necklace that coordinates beautifully with the pearl accents lining her headdress. She rests on a dark throne, surrounded by blooming flowers. The male portrait features an older gentleman, clad in dark fur as he sits perched atop a throne that appears to take the shape of a striped cat. Below him is a smiling guardian lion, surrounded by floral accents. Both pieces are bordered in silk, and presented behind glass in simple black frames with hanging wires present to verso.
