Victorian Color Engraving "A View Halloo"

A colored engraving on paper after W. H. Hopkins, titled A View Halloo. The image depicts a fox hunting scene in a gray and brown winter forest, with a red-coated man riding a white horse among a pack of hounds. This print, from the Fores’s Sporting Incidents series published c. the late 1880s by the quarterly Fore’s Sporting Notes & Sketches, is matted with the caption ‘A View Halloo. ’His Lifted Finger to His Ear He Plies. And the View Halloo Bids a Chorus Rise.’ From the Original Picture in the poſseſsion of G. G. Stone, Esq. exhibited at the Royal Academy,’ and presented in a wood frame with a hanging wire.
Condition
- some small spots of water damage; some foxing to matting; fading of caption; tears to frame backing; wear consistent with age.
