World War I and II Cigarette Lighters and Matchbox Holders

A collection of World War I and II era cigarette lighters and matchbox holders from circa 1910 and 1930. Featured are trench lighters such as a Bowers Sure Fire Trench Cigarette Lighter, an ORLIK UL of London bullet shaped lighter and a benzene brass lighter case which has the monogram ‘KW’ embossed on the front for the manufacturer Karl Wieden produced circa 1930. There are seven matchbox covers. The smallest cover depicts a courting scene and is marked ‘Made in USA.’ A celluloid covered tin matchbook cover depicting the British Flag has ‘CANADA,’ the Maple Leaf badge, and written on its edge is ‘British Made.’ A silver toned matchbook cover decorated with an enameled shield reads ‘SCARBOROUGH’ and it is also stamped ‘Made in England.’ There is leather covered German matchbook cover depicting a couple wearing German folk wear holding hands. It is hand painted in bright colors. A WWII era Chinese made match box cover has open sides and depicts a hand etched scene of a man in a kimono. A WWI German matchbook cover is engraved with the slogan ‘Got Mit Uns.’ It is made of heavy brass with an embossed crown in the center. A grey WWI German hinged match dispenser is marked ‘Made by Lehmann,’ ‘Mit Herz und Hand’ and has references to ‘Hindenburg’ and ’Fur’s Vaterland.’ It also is marked ‘Patent Amtlich Geschutzt.’
