Oil on Copper After D. Vinckeboons (1578 - 1629)

An oil painting on copper plate in the manner of David Vinckeboons (1576 – 1629), circa 19th century. This Grand Tour souvenir depicts a traveler in a red coat stopping on a path along a river or lakeside. He is standing under a grove of large trees in the foreground and there are woodlands in the background fading out into the horizon. The painting is housed in a gold frame with a red silk lined fillet. There are two inscriptions on the back dust paper from this painting. The first across the top is faint and says ‘D. VanVoorhis’. The second later inscription points to the first and says ‘Margaret Gorsuch writing. Betty & Chic brought to me after Margaret’s death.’
Condition
Minimal issues with painting. Frame has loss of gilding consistent with age. Interior cloth fillet has completely faded.
