Luigi Kasimir Aquatint Etching on Paper "Belvedere Palace Gate"

Item Details

An original etching with a la poupée aquatint coloring titled Belvedere Palace Gate by well-listed Austrian-born etcher and painter Luigi Kasimir (New York/California; 1881 – 1962), published in 1923. The image depicts a Neoclassic style building beyond a wrought iron gate with decorative line scroll work. Artist signature is signed in pencil to the lower right. The item is presented under a single layer of white mat, under glass, and is housed in a decorative frame with hanging wire to the verso. Kasimir attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under Wilhelm Unger, who introduced him to the technique of the colored etching. He demonstrated a predisposition for monuments and street scenes, as is demonstrated in this image, as his interpretation of proportion, linear perspective and detail are uncanny.
