A framed modern hand tinted engraving of J.W. Weinmann’s Poppies of 1745. It is an image from the Phytanthoza Iconographia , the first botanical book to use mezzotint color technique. The print is marked No. 793 in the upper right corner. Below the images of the poppies is printed in Latin ‘a. Papaver hortense cristatum flore carneo. b. Papver hortense cristatum oris rubris flore pleno. c.Papaver hortense cristatum unguibus violaceis.’ It is framed with a gilt edge mat in a black frame with a rubbed finish.
