Vintage Handwoven Wool Anatolian Carpet Runner
Item Details
A vintage handwoven nomadic wool carpet runner, attributed to Anatolian weavers, and likely woven on a ground loom. It features a large central pendant pole medallion in carnelian red, indigo, taupe, yellow, mocha and pale blue. The field is populated with tree forms, while barber pole r frame the field. The corner spandrels resemble an amulet form. It has primary borders in indigo and red, with a floral meander design in the same palette. It has a soft, natural undyed wool warp fringe to either end, with a multiple overcast edge. Securing stitches have been added at the warp ends to help prevent fraying. Unmarked.
Condition
- to fair for age. Several holes noted, with wear to fringe consistent with age and use. Some fraying to corners and edges.
