An original signed oil on canvas by listed artist Boyce Benge (American, 1929-2016). The Abstract Expressionistic work is in bright colors, with rows of stenciled numbers and letters overlaying center, composed of geometric blocks of color, the calligraphic images creating a lively movement and depth of transparent light, in a dynamic composition. The c. 1969 painting is framed in a beveled painted silver frame with painted black reveal.
Boyce Benge was a North Carolina-born artist who painted in New York. His works often are designed with sewn and stitched canvases in bright color ways, and often include calligraphic forms. His work is included in the Pollock-Krasner Foundation,founded by the American artist Lee Krasner, the wife of Abstract artist Jackson Pollock.
