A collection of children’s books written in German includes antique and vintage volumes. Featured is the book Backe, Backe Kuchen: Alte Reime Mit Neuen Bildern von Wilhelm Schäfer, circa 1870. This hardback book has a pictorial front cover in full color with a mother and three youngsters being watched over by angels. The interior illustrations are also in full color. Other titles translated from the German to English titles are A Young Tomcat Wishes To Have Some Mice: Poems, Fables, and Stories About Cat and Mouse collected by Gottfried Herold, illustrated by Eva Natus-Salamoun, and published in Berlin; George Schrimpf, written by Oscar Maria Graf, with an autobiography by the artist, which features one color plate and 52 illustrations (Leipzig, 1923); The Poor Heinrich by George Hauptman, a Nobel Prize Winner, with illustrations by Heinrich Vogeler (Fischer, Berlin, 1902); Children and Houses Fairytales collected by the Grimm Brothers, a Jubilee Edition 1812-1912, with illustrations by Ludwig Grimm (Cotta, Stuttgart, 1912).
Condition
Shelf wear to the covers consitent with age. Names of former owners on the front endpapers, foxing, cracked spines, and loose text books may be evident.
