Larry Cabaniss Original Oil on Canvas

Item Details

An original signed oil on canvas by listed artist Larry Cabaniss (American, 1926-2007). Titled Bagnanti, the modernist work depicts a seated nude woman occupied with weaving strands of long orange and gold fibers. The woman has a peaceful and impassive countenance with half-closed eyes, her hair pulled back, with a bunch of strands around her shoulders, the remaining strands draped over her lap. The background is painted in broad juxtaposed strokes of pale gray and orange, while the central figure is delineated in a linear manner, with restrained coloration. The unframed painting is signed to the lower left corner and to the back.
Larry Cabaniss, born in Akron, Ohio, was in Japan in the late 1940s as part of the occupation forces after WWII. In Japan, he began studying art with Fujitso, then at Pratt after returning to the States. Most of his creative years were spent in both Paris and Rome. Cabaniss’ paintings are widely collected and exhibited.
