Collection of Four Elephant Figurines
Item Details
A collection of four elephant figurines. Included is a carved wood elephant dressed for a Hindu carnival. The elephant wears a red saddle blanket on its body; its head is covered with an ornate headdress and a detachable chhatri umbrella covered in bead and sequin embellishments. A sticker on the back reads ‘Made in India.’ The second item is a wood carved elephant with a driver and a howdah. The elephant is dressed with painted garments and gold body paint. The item is marked with a tag to the underside that reads ‘Made in India, Item No. 136, DIR’. The third item is a carved wood elephant in mid stride, with a raised trunk. It is dressed with an elaborate blanket made of gold-tone metal material that covers its back and head and hangs low to the ground. It also has a sticker to the underside marked ‘Made in India’. The last item is a carved wood elephant elaborately painted with colorful garments and body paint throughout its body. The elephant supports a driver and an empty howdah. No marks or signatures were found on this item.
