A signed lithograph by listed artist David Alfaro Siqueiros (Mexico, 1896-1974) titled El Centauro de la Conquista. The black and white non-objective abstract untitled lithograph depicts an energy and vitality with sinuous human-inspired forms, composed in an explosion emanating from the center, with a play on negative and positive space. The piece is pencil signed to the lower right margin. The print is displayed under glass in an off white matte and narrow dark wood frame.
David Alfaro Siqueiros is best known as a social revolutionary muralist and his expressive painting style. He was a contemporary of Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco, and with them, established the style “Mexican Muralism”. Siqueiros believed in painting the oppressed involved in the struggle against authoritarianism and capitalism, and himself was involved in the attempted assassination of Leon Trotsky, with his subsequent exile to Mexico City, then to the Soviet Union.
