An original oil painting on canvas by well-listed American Impressionist painter Julie Morrow DeForest (Cincinnati/New York/California; 1882-1979), titled Lady in Lilac. The image depicts a portrait of a silver-haired mature woman, distinguished in her upright posture and fine lilac-colored silken garments as she gazes composedly out of a nearby window. Behind her, a potted fern and shadowy green wall occupy the backdrop. Artist signature is signed in paint to the lower left. The painting is mounted behind a linen liner in a beveled wood frame with a bright gold leaf finish. A Closson’s Gallery of Cincinnati gilt sticker is attached to the verso, as well as a gallery sticker that identifies artist, title and media. DeForest’s work is represented in the collections of numerous reputable institutions, including Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbia University, New York City; and the Cincinnati Art Museum, among many more.
