An antique late 19th-century original watercolor painting on paper signed in ink to the lower right by artist G. J. Frey, titled The Alhambra. The image depicts an interior view of the Islamic palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain; as an inhabitant walks along the beautifully tiled white floors under towering Arabic arched doorways, protected by an armed guard behind him. Title is marked to the lower left. The painting is mounted behind hand-rolled antique glass in a simple beveled wood frame with a black finish. A dilapidated label from Bittelmeyer’s Art Store in Cincinnati, Ohio, is attached to the verso.
Condition
- condition consistent with age. Discoloration across painting. Finish of frame is damaged with chips and abrasions along edges and corners.
