1940s Howard Model 909 Radio Phonograph Cabinet

A 1940s Model 909 ‘radio phonograph’ by the Howard Radio Co. This wood stereo console cabinet is box-shaped, with rounded edges, and has two drawers above two tan mesh lattice doors, all with round gold tone handles. The left drawer contains a record turntable, while the right drawer is actually the shortwave/broadcast tuner and controls. The bottom part of the cabinet is divided in two; the left side is empty, while the right side has a speaker on the back of the door. A label on the back of the tuner has a schematic diagram and reads, ‘Model 909; Serial No. 909-4159 [ . . . ] Howard Radio Co., Chicago, Ill.; This Apparatus Is Licensed Under the United States Patent Rights of Hazeltine Corporation; This Apparatus Uses Inventions of United States Patents Licensed by Radio Corporation of America Patent No’s. Sent on Request; (NP-1008).’
