Item Details
An oil painting on canvas by Emily Burling Waite (American, 1887 – 1980) of a woman leading a lamb. The early canvas depicts, most likely a European woman in a white apron with a lamb at her feet as she attempts to lead a lamb, set in a pastoral scene. The canvas has a possible later signature to the lower right in red ‘EMILY BURLING WAITE’ with the verso of the stretcher stamped ‘THE ARTIST CENTRE.’ It was common for Waite to add signatures to earlier works. This painting is similar in style to item 16BOS080-039 which was painted during her Grand Tour travels as a student in 1910 – 1912 while the recipient of the Paige Traveling Scholarship from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
