Erté Signed Embossed Serigraph Titled "Diana"

Item Details

An original hand-signed limited edition embossed serigraph titled Diana by well-listed artist Erté (French-Russian, 1892 – 1990). The serigraph, with fabulous foil stamped detailing, is from Erte’s series The Myths, depicts, in Art Deco style, the goddess Diana with a multi-tiered gold laurel leaf crown, her arms stretched to the skies, dressed in a low-cut bronze gown with sunburst medallion to her waist, standing atop a gray stone pedestal with fluted design. The serigraph is number 291 out of an edition of 300. The piece is hand-signed in pencil to the lower right margin. This impressive work is displayed under glass in a beige matte and burl wood frame.
Erté, born in Russia and the only son of an Admiral in the Imperial Fleet, was fascinated with the miniatures he saw in his father’s library. This love of pattern and color is seen in his fabulous illustrations and Art Deco designs. He was known for his magazine illustrations, sculpture and painting. He began illustrating for Harper’s Bazaar in 1915, creating over 240 covers for the magazine.
