Antique Handcarved Syrian Chest with Mother of Pearl Inlay

Item Details

An antique, handcarved Syrian wooden chest inlaid with mother-of-pearl. A dark wood chest, with a hinged top lid, two interior candle boxes, lavishly carved and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Carving to the front includes Islamic architectural motifs including horseshoe arches and interlaced knots and a scalloped spandrel apron. Antique chest was made prior to 1900.

Condition

Insect damage present to the bottom of the legs of the piece, the top is warped and sinks along the center of the lid; cracks and chips are present throughout the piece, legs and the bottom of the chest are slightly warped
