Authentic Human Skull with Hinged Opening

Item Details

An authentic human skull with hinged opening. This skull, likely from the Victorian period, is truly unique. A vertical bisection to the front of the skull is intersected by a lateral cut that allows the skull to be opened and viewed from within. A small hinge is affixed to the parietal bone, allowing the right side of the face to swing open, revealing the anatomical structures within. Two hook-and-eye closures are present to the top of the calvarium, ensuring the skull remains securely closed. Within the skull, a small, metal betty lamp is affixed to the posterior, with an included snuffer present to eliminate the flame. There is evidence of caramelization from the heat of the lamp within the skull cavity, identifying its intended use.

  • The importation or exportation of human bones across the state lines of Georgia, New York and Tennessee is prohibited.
