Item Details

Gouache
Paper

A pair of framed copies of 19th century Russian architectural landscapes. The first is after Russian artist Fyodor Alekseyev (1753-1824). It is titled View of the Kremlin and the Kamenny Bridge in Moscow_,’ from the Moskva river, depicting bustling activity along its banks. The information to verso, written in Russian, is translated as follows: ’_View of the Kremlin and the Kamenny Bridge by Fyodor Alekseyev, c.1800. Copy by A. Khripkova (А. Хрипкова).’ The second is titled View of Old Red Square_, portraying a Moscow crowd in fine clothing enjoying the grandeur of the neoclassical architecture surrounding them. The translation of the Russian notation written on the verso of this piece is as follows: ’_View of Old Red Square by D.C. Laf(e?), c.1801. Copy by A. Khripkova (А. Хрипкова).’ (Note, however, that this work is most commonly attributed to Gerard Delabart.) Each of these works is presented in an ornate charcoal grey mat with gold detailing and a dimensional wooden frame with gold finish, under glass. The verso of each is wired for hanging and has information about the print written in Russian, which, in addition to painting title, also indicates the copyist’s medium to be watercolor and ink.
