Dennis Oppenheim Signed Limited Edition Lithograph "Blue Vectors - an Invasion"

Item Details

A signed hand-pulled color lithograph on rag paper with deckled edges by very well-listed and historically notable American Conceptual and Earthworks artist, Dennis Oppenheim (California/New York; 1938 – 2011), titled Cobalt Vectors – An Invasion, dated 1979. The print features reproduced images of photographs taken by Oppenheim from the air, documenting his 1978 outdoor installation on a vast stretch of land at El Mirage Dry Lake in California. Using asphalt primer and cobalt blue dry pigment, Oppenheim created two 2,000-foot straight ‘vectors,’ which translate as drawn lines when viewed aerially. The print is numbered by hand 134 in an edition of 150, signed and dated in pencil by the artist to the lower right. This piece is not framed, awaiting presentation of choice. Among his accomplishments, Oppenheim was included with the likes of other formidable conceptual Earthworks artists Michael Heizer, Robert Smithson and Robert Morris in the important 1968 Earthworks show at the Dwan Gallery in New York. He received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He was included in both the Venice Biennale and the Johannesburg Biennale in 1997. In 2007, he was recognized for Lifetime Achievement at the Vancouver Sculpture Biennale. Oppenheim’s works are represented in the permanent collections of numerous museums and galleries, including Musée d’art Contemporain de Lyon; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; Corcoran Gallery of Art; Laumier Sculpture Park And Museum; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art; and the Neuberger Museum of Art, among countless others.
