An original lithograph by world renowned surrealist Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) titled Portrait of the Bullfighter Hero, Escamillo from the Carmen suite. This print, created after an original gouache painting, depicts a portrait of a matador, wearing a black beret and an ornate jacket and tie. The figure’s right eye stares past the pictorial space while the left side of his face is ghoulish, his left eye missing with a sunken cavity in its place. Signed in plate to upper right, this work is also signed in pencil to lower right, and numbered 1/125 to lower left, also in pencil. The work is mounted beneath a layer of white linen matting with a gilt fillet and is presented behind glass in a sleek, gilt frame. Hanging wire present to verso.
