Bronze Bust of a Bacchante After Joseph Charles Marin

A bronze and marble bust of ‘Buste de jeune fille’ or Bust of a Young Girl, circa mid to late 19th century, after Joseph Charles Marin (1759-1834). Marin was a French sculpture who won the Grand Prix de Sculpture in 1801. This aged solid bronze bust depicts the classical figure of Bacchante, a female follower of Bacchus, god of wine and intoxication. Marin often used floral and grape vine accents on his female busts. This piece is mounted on a gray square of marble with a white marble pedestal and brass accents. It is unmarked.
