Edgar Hatten Original Oil on Canvas Board "Two Figures"
Item Details
An original oil on canvas mounted to board by well-listed American-born painter Edgar Hatten (California/Wyoming/Australia; 1929 – 1990), titled Two Figures, dated 1980. The compelling composition utilizes the geometric shapes of the negative space to create the image with equal importance as the two seated nude figures. The figures have very few distinguishing features, aside from hints of crimson lips and the subtle suggestions of noses and eyes. Both figures wear lavender bathing caps, a color that echoes throughout the entire painting; in the skin tones of the bodies, in the shapes on the wall behind them, in the space underneath them. The painting is signed, titled and dated by the artist in paint to the verso. Presented behind neutral oatmeal linen mat with blonde wood fillet in a simple blonde wood frame. A label from Cincinnati Art Galleries is attached to the verso. This piece is accompanied by a booklet from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC. titled 3 Artists, 3 Visions, that includes color reproduction images from artists Robert Herrmann, Edgar Yaeger, and Edgar Hatten.
