Circa 1920 Handmade Mahal Area Rug
Item Details
A Mahal area rug circa 1920. This rug features a brick red ground adorned by a repeating floral and arabesque vine work pattern in peach, golden, green, teal, turquoise, royal blue, yellow, navy, and white. The spandrels of the rug are a light navy and are adorned by a foliate pattern in pink, peach, red, golden, and turquoise. The rug features a light navy main border with a floral and vine work pattern in a similar palette, small guard floral borders in rust, turquoise, and navy, and an outer border of turquoise adorned with rust and yellow flowers. A short white cotton fringe decorates two ends. The rug is marked ‘9.14 HOR 19967’ by a tag to the verso.
