A group of three happy Budai with children figurines. Budai (布袋, Hotei in Japanese), a folkloric deity of happiness and contentment who is also known as the Laughing Buddha. He is depicted smiling, with a rotund belly, and fat earlobes. Two Budai are white porcelain and one has a light flesh tone finish and each has colorful hand painted details. The smallest figure depicts Budai in a yellow, blue and coral robe and the children wear blue, pink and coral clothing, unmarked. The mid-size Budai has gold highlighted details to his peach and purple robe and the children are wearing yellow and green, marked ‘Japan’ to base. The largest Budai wears a pink and blue robe with gold painted details and the five children playing on him wear light colored traditional clothing with gold painted details. He is also unmarked.
