A semi-antique Kazak Shirvan area rug. The rug has a palette of bright indigo blue, tan, dark red, sage green, mocha brown, white and ivory. It features three stepped pole medallions with star motifs on a simple field, with repeated ram’s horn medallions and eight-pointed star motifs. Barber pole borders frame bright blue and espresso brown running dog hooked borders, flanking a reciprocal compound border, having a rectilinear design in sage green, warm beige and bright blue on an ivory field. The rug is banded with an ‘s’ hook motif and has dense, fine wool warp fringe to either end. It is overcast with a double selvedge in deep blue. Unmarked.
