An antique Gibus London top hat. The black hat is silk with a black ribbon band. The hat is made by Gibus in London. It is collapsible. Antoine Gibus was a Parisian hat maker that invented the collapsible hat , or opera hat in 1812. The hat has a system of steel springs embedded into the hat to enable it to collapse.
