A signed oil on board seascape by Eugene J. Melancon (1861-1946), a Buffalo, New York artist and fresco painter, known for his oil landscapes, church frescoes, and portraits. The work depicts a ship with several unfurled sails and a French flag on calm ocean waves. The item is signed in the lower left corner in red paint, ‘Melancon’. Text printed on the verso bears instructions for application of paint to board. The piece is presented in a wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- good to fair; frame is scuffed and chipped; yellowing varnish on surface of painting, may need professional cleaning.
