Item Details
An original oil painting on board by artist Sister Matilda, D.P. (1887-1980). This still life features a deep blue vase overflowing with chrysanthemum flowers in autumnal tones. The background of the painting is a neutral tone, accentuating the splendor of the bright blooms. Signed in paint to lower right, this work is presented in a beveled wood frame with natural finish and hanging wire to verso.
Sister Matilda, born Caroline Bechter, discovered an interest in arts at a young age and found ways to paint although her family didn’t have enough money for supplies. She joined the convent in 1907 and became an art teacher in Catholic schools, continuously improving her own work. Please see link below for more information about this fascinating artist.
