An important pair of Revolutionary War era posters. Includes a ‘Take Notice’ military recruitment poster calling to arms ‘all brave, healthy, abled bodied and well disposed young men’ to fight for the cause. Additionally, a second document dated March 4th, 1789, reads with the heading ‘Congress of the United States began and held at the city of New York on Wednesday, the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine’. This historically significant date marks the day when the first U.S. Congress was scheduled to convene under the newly ratified and binding Constituion after amendments were made to the Articles of Confederation. The posters are housed behind glass with a red single matting, framed by wood with brass rings for hanging positioned at the top.
