Dora McCollister Original Double-Sided Oil Painting on Board

Item Details

An original double-sided oil painting on board by well-listed Ohio artist Dora G. McCollister (1860-1945). The first side of the painting depicts a sweeping foothill landscape, featuring tall trees and a large boulder in the foreground and a pale blue sky filling the background. The painting seems to be incomplete, with several areas of exposed board. The second side depicts a rural farm home set in a wide field. A few sparse trees stand alongside the structure, and a spindly fence crosses the yard. This side also appears unfinished, with exposed gessoed board to the lower corners. The painting is unsigned, but comes directly from a large collection of the artist’s works. It is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation. McCollister graduated from the Columbus School of Art and Design in 1932 and was the first fine arts graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design (Sarasota, Florida), in April 1937.
