Riley Bertram Sgraffito Painting on Board "The Hinge"
Item Details
An original sgraffito painting on board titled The Hinge by listed artist Riley Bertram (1932-2000). The piece depicts a predominant lower door hinge from a close-up perspective with blades of grass reaching up to it contrasting to the visible linear wood grains. The piece is constructed with two successive painted layers of contrasting bright orange and black with the superficial layer of black paint scratched off, revealing orange areas of the underlying surface and forming the final image. It is signed ‘Bertram’ to the lower right and presented under brown velvet-like mat in a purposely distressed wooden frame with a circular patterned molding in a gilt and burgundy finish. There is a wire attached to the verso and the piece is ready to hang.
