Item Details
An antique handwoven Mahal area rug, circa 1910. The rug features an indigo blue field with four large stylized vase forms outlining floral sprays in scarlet, ivory, pale blue, yellow and burnt orange, with large bisected blossoms and geometric lancet leaves. To the side of he central medallion forms are tree of life elements, next to an inner border design of additional individual blossoms. The compound floral border features the same palette of colors and a primary border of large, elongated cypress or tree palmettes resembling those of Boldajai tree borders, in cinnamon, scarlet, bright blue, ruby ivory and yellow. It has an applied wool fringe to either end, and is illegibly tagged.
