Item Details
An original lithographic poster promoting the 1968 Saul Steinberg exhibition at the Flair Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The poster features imagery designed and created by Steinberg. Artist signature is printed in plate to the lower right. Gallery name and address and exhibition dates are printed along lower edge. This poster is not framed, and rests against a black mat board substrate, protected inside a sealed acrylic sleeve. Steinberg (1914 – 1999) was a well-listed Romanian Surrealist who spent most of his life living and working in New York. He is perhaps best known for his design for the 1976 cover of The New Yorker, in which a biased linear perspective study takes place in Manhattan, which serves as the landmark from which everything else in the world recedes. Steinberg’s work is represented in the collections of numerous museums and galleries, including the Cincinnati Art Museum; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Sara Roby Foundation Collection and the Butler Institute of American Art.
