A small carved ‘Mboko’ sculpture made by the Luba people of Central Africa. The wooden sculpture depicts a seated, long-necked woman holding a bowl in her lap. The woman’s eyes are closed, and she is seated with her legs straight out in front of her. No maker’s marks; age of the piece is unknown.

Condition

Condition consistent with age of the item- large chip missing in the wood of the top of the sculpture- large split in the wood of the right shoulder- large chip under the chin
