Kuba Raffia Cloth

Item Details

A woven raffia cloth made in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by the Kuba-Shoowa people. This piece appears to be woven from course Raffia palm fibres, and includes a geometric design with a diamond pattern set against an tan background. A seam has been sewn around the edge of the textile and stitched all the way through the other side. The cloth dates from the early to mid 20th century.

Condition

- some discoloration, severe creases due to being folded, some slight fraying, no visible rips or tears, condition consistent with age and use.
