After James Pradier Sculpture of Canova's "Hercules and Lichas"

A cast reproduction sculpture after Antonio Canova’s (Italian, 1757 – 1822) famed marble Hercules and Lichas, now housed at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome. The piece depicts the mythological tale told in Ovid’s Metamorphoses of Hercules and his servant Lichas. The figures are set atop a gray colored, naturalistic base that features the shape of a lion’s head and paw. This sculpture features a bronze finish and includes the incised signature of Jean-Jacques (James) Pradier (1790 – 1852) to the base.
