An original Chinese ink and acrylic painting titled 1971-44 by Chinese painter Fong Chung-Ray (b. 1934). As one of the first contemporary abstract Chinese artists, Chung-Ray is celebrated for merging traditional eastern style with modern abstraction. He translates motion to the canvas, connecting to nature’s four elements – earth, water, wind, and fire. In 2015, Chung-Ray was honored with a retrospective at the Galerie du Monde in Hong Kong. 1971-44 features sweeping strokes of blue tones on a soft white ground. The painting is pencil signed by the artist, located on the lower right. The painting has a single brown embossed mat and is housed behind plexiglass in a simple metal frame with a wire for hanging to the verso.
