Charley Harper Limited Edition Signed Serigraph "Phancy Pheathers"
Item Details
A signed, limited edition serigraph by beloved Cincinnati artist Charley Harper (1922-2007) titled Phancy Pheathers. This print depicts a ring-necked pheasant, looking out of the field of view as he stands in a grassy clearing. His plumage is created with beautifully geometrical shapes and subtle colors, including olive greens, warm browns, and hints of purple. Signed and numbered 1495/2500 in pencil to lower margin, this print is mounted beneath dual layers of coordinating mats, and is presented behind glass in a handsome wood frame. Hanging wire present to verso.
Harper often wrote short quips about his work, including this piece for Phancy Pheathers: ‘The ring-necked pheasant – clotheshorse of the cornfields or haberdasher’s nightmare? What’s he wearing? White tie and tails, or short-sleeved, long-tailed, loud-mouthed sport shirt with open collar? Is it a smart art deco design, or too many colors and patterns lumped together? Is it the grandeur of silk or the gaucherie of sequins? Does it matter? A rainbow in the snow is better bromide for the mid-winter blahs than buying a new spring outfit around the phirst of Phebruary.’
