An original oil painting on board by Cincinnati artist Arthur Helwig (1899-1976) titled Abstract Figures. Energetic tones of green flow together with calming blues and electric reds to create this amorphous work. Nebulous shapes rest on geometric figures, occasionally resembling the human form. This work is not signed, but has a stamp from Helwig’s estate to lower left. Presented in a black frame with hanging wire present to verso. Helwig worked off and on at printing shops in the Cincinnati area before choosing to take classes full time at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He eventually became an instructor at the school, and served as president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1939-1941.
