An Allyn Cox original signed working sketch for US Capitol mural. This working sketch by Allyn Cox (1896-1982) is for a mural on the US Capitol ceiling of Chief Justice John Marshall swearing in President Andrew Jackson 1829. The oil on canvas mural is titled First Capitol Inauguration and was completed in 1974. According to Cox, the charcoal working sketches are the only elements of the work not in the possession of the Architect of the Capitol. Piece is framed in a beveled wooden frame with white mat and includes background ephemera on verso.
